The singer has the responsibility of voicing what a pipe carrier does in ritual and he sings the apporopriate sequence of songs for th e spiritual relationshiop of the people with the Great Spirit.
He sings by including and in relation to animals, Earth objects, stellar bodies, and ceremonial objects; thereby respecting all of the universe and the directions where the Great Spirit resides.
Words to these songs are translated from Lakota to English in slow speech, then sung after each translation in their clear and traditional melodies.
