Canadian Exodus: Sitting Bull And His People Coming Back to Standing Rock - Lyle Miller

Following the Battle of Greasy Grass (June 25-26, 1876), Sitting Bull and his people sought refuge from the United States government in Canada. During this time, The U.S. continued to pressure Canada to return Sitting Bull. After three years of hardship and lack of support from the Canadian government, Sitting Bull and his remaining followers returned home, ultimately resulting in his surrender in 1881.

The painting depicts a solemn Hunkpapa Leader, flanked by two warriors with the spirits of many behind them as they sadly make the Canadian Exodus
